# Writing the post

> The editor, formatting, mentions and character counts.

The editor is a rich-text field, but what survives to each platform is decided
by that platform — most accept plain text plus line breaks and little else.

## Formatting

Bold, italic and lists render on platforms that support them and are stripped
on those that do not. Nushir sanitises rather than rejects: unsupported markup
is removed at publish, so what you see in the editor is the richest version,
not a guarantee.

Line breaks are preserved everywhere. They are the one piece of formatting you
can rely on across every channel.

## Character counts

Every selected channel shows its own remaining count, because limits differ
per platform — and per instance, on Mastodon. When several channels share the
global draft, the *lowest* limit is the one that blocks scheduling.

## Mentions and hashtags

Typed as text. A platform that resolves `@handle` or `#tag` does so on its own
side — Nushir does not verify a mention exists before publishing.

## Emoji

The emoji picker inserts standard Unicode, which every platform renders in its
own style.

<Tip>
Writing per-platform variants of the same message? Detach only the channels
that need it and keep the rest on the shared draft — see
  [global vs per-channel](/general/composer/global-vs-per-channel).
