# Instagram

> Connecting Instagram, and the rules it enforces.

## Connecting

**Add Channel → Instagram**, approve access on the platform, and you are returned
here. See [connect a channel](/general/channels/connect) for the general flow.

## Worth knowing

`post_type` selects post, reel or story. A personal account can connect but never publish; switch it in the Instagram app first.

## Posting over the API

Use `instagram` as the channel's `identifier`. The `settings` object this platform
expects is listed in [channel settings](/public-api/channel-settings).
